Reccer’s comments: Addiction can be a tricky subject to write about, but the author handles it well. A nicely fleshed out and constructed AU, this is a story about addiction, recovery, and finally the redemptive power of love – without ever getting cheesy. A nice, long, satisfying read.

Reccer’s comments: I’m not generally drawn to this kind of hurt! in fic - it's hard for me to read as I'm sure it's hard to write - but this is amazingly done and I’m so glad I read it. It’s sad but somehow very hopeful at the same time, and the characterizations are A+.

Reccer’s comments: Since it aired, Swan Song has produced SO many fab variations on what comes after, and this is one of them. I love the dreamlike atmosphere it has going on, and the writing is evocative and crisp.

Author’s notes/summary: Written for spn_j2_bigbang. People are dying mysteriously all over the Northeast and the boys head there to investigate. They plod through the case, Dean distracted by his memories of Hell, nightmares, shame, guilt, fear, a bad stomach and a weird rash, Sam distracted by Dean's torment. Sam wants to help Dean, but Dean just wants to sublimate his desperation through work. As the case flounders, the brothers' relationship begins to mutate. If they can just figure out what's going on, catch the creature and kill it, fix Dean's body and heal his mind, and settle things between them, things might actually be okay. Also, there's comfort food, a perfect small town in Upstate New York, and maybe a surprise or two. Please read warnings carefully. General spoilers for Season 4. Approximately 32,000 words. NC-17, Sam/Dean.

Reccer’s notes: An anon says: As the author said, do read the warnings! Despite them, though, I found this fic to be one of the most feel-good Big Bangs I’ve read so far this year. Yes, there’s serious angst, but there’s hope too, plus the caring Sam I longed for in season 4. This fic is just so wonderfully full of emotion and warmth.

As an aside, reading it made me so hungry! The author describes the best sounding food in delicious detail. Nom nom nom.

Reccer's notes: maypoles says: Definitely read the warnings! Because of the subject matter this was difficult to read, but the author handles it with great care. And as I said in my feedback, she really nails the POV of a child, which I think is a tough thing to do. This was scary and horrifying - all the moreso for having been written from such a fantastic child's POV.

kalliel gets a special mention for writing two fics this month that are utterly different, yet both amazing. Hot/Cold (gen) captures the atmosphere of season 3 amazingly well. It’s engaging with A+ characterizations, and of course, there’s sick!Dean. (He has the flu. ;-( ;-( ;-( )

A few ground-rules:

01. As for what type of thing you should be prompting here, this is a Dean-focused hurt/comfort community, so Dean should be the one in the hurt/comforted role. Your prompts may involve sick!Dean, (yes, please!) angsty!Dean, hurt!Dean, or anything else that results in Dean being on the receiving end of hurt/comfort.

02. Comment to this post with your desired characters or pairings, if any, and a prompt. All genres/pairings are welcome, however this is not an RPF meme. Please focus on the fictional characters only.

Example A: “Sam, Dean, gen, set in season 4. PTSD!Dean has a flashback to hell on a hunt and almost gets himself and Sam killed. Cue guilty, upset Dean and awesome, comforting Sam.”
Example B: “Sam/Dean, fever. Dean has the chills and there is cuddling, naaw.”

03. You can leave as many prompts as you like, but one prompt per comment, please. If you've got a few, comment with each separately.

04. Your prompts can be as short or as detailed as you’d like.
