Summary: Set over several years, starting in Season 10, directly after 'The Things We Left Behind'. Shaken by the massacre of the loan sharks and with no way to remove the Mark of Cain, Dean agrees to the next best alternative: retirement. Their peaceful new life doesn't last long however. When Abaddon abducts Dean after securing the First Blade, she’s got the perfect new weapon of mass destruction to take Hell from Crowley. Sam battles to rescue Dean who must then endure withdrawal from the Mark’s effects within the bunker’s panic room.

Fearful of the same happening again, Dean gets himself detained in a secure psychiatric hospital where he convinces the doctors that he’s got paranoid schizophrenia. Reluctantly respecting his brother’s wishes, Sam goes back to studying law and leaves Dean where he wants to be. Three years later, while still looking for a way to remove the Mark, Sam stumbles across a prophecy that Lucifer will rise and will only be stopped by the bearer of the Mark, forcing Dean leave his hiding place and take up the Blade one last time...

reapertownusa despite being ridiculously busy herself. Title taken from Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water. Fic written for this prompt: Sam and Dean are playing Guitar Hero. And it's just not fair the Sam's kicking Dean's ass. The situation just made me smile every time I thought of them playing and teasing each other. I imagined this to be somewhere along the later seasons in the bunker, giving the boys some well-deserved down time, but any season can work.

I did also manage to partly include this prompt too: The first time John told Dean he's proud of him. I'm thinking this might have collide with the first time Dean saved Sam's life. The fic is set at an unspecified point once the boys have set up home at the bunker.

Summary: Dean’s never done ‘idle’ and on the few occasions he’s had no choice, he’s been an absolute asshole to live with. Like now. Dean is injured and Sam’s ready for killing him until he discovers the secret to re-connecting with his brother: Guitar Hero.

Author's Note: I didn't think I wanted to write this. I was asked to and resisted, thinking that watching the finale had been hard enough. But a week after viewing I realized I was still thinking about it and knew that one of the only ways I was going to be able to process was through writing. This is a one shot; I thought about taking it further but then decided I didn't want to get too far down the path of possibility this early in the hellatus.

As with all stories, this is simply one interpretation, one speculation, and one possibility. I had to pick a direction for my hero and I picked the one I thought I could deal with…but, that said, I look forward to seeing how our Show will move forward from the end point of the finale and how they'll mend our broken hearts.

So, this is for those of you who PMd and Tweeted, asking me to write a tag. It feels somewhat twisted and wrong to say I hope you enjoy this, knowing the angst and sorrow I'm about to put you through, but if nothing else, I hope you're able to process, as I was. And that we all feel a little bit of hope again.

Author's Note: And here we are. The finale. The epilogue to follow will answer some questions and tie up loose ends, but this is the chapter where everything is truly decided. I knew going into this story that I wouldn't make everyone happy; I knew the AU-ness and the addition of female characters in the boys' lives would alienate some readers. I knew this story wasn't for everyone.

But I didn't write it for everyone. I wrote it for me and held out a small, bright hope that some of you would enjoy it, too. I send out a very sincere thank you to those who've read and especially those who've taken time to leave me your reviews and encouragement.

There were many ways I could have gone with this ending, but only one that would let me sleep at night. Again, I know this ending won't please everyone, but I truly hope you enjoy and that you feel your time spent with this story has been worth it.
