Like previos episodes, this one has shifting POV's that include Dean's. A reminder: this is a Sam-centric fic, but it definitely dives into Dean's internal struggle as he deals with his own trauma.

Title: Away from These Shores (11/?)
Author:ever_dimming
Genre: Gen
Summary: A simple hunt leaves Sam in an altered state no one seems able to explain – at first. Pulling him out of it is not nearly as easy as it should be, especially since Dean is dealing with his own trauma(s).
Triggers / warnings for this episode: Past suicidal ideation (and then some) in one paragraph; Dissociation (mostly not Dean's, for now); post-trauma, flashbacks, past violence & torture in hell and the Cage; quick reference the Winchesters' painful upbringing.
Spoilers: The fic is standalone, but refers to the plot up to and including 8X01 here and there.
Disclaimer: Supernatural, its characters, plot lines etc. belong to their awesome creators. I am merely suggesting fun new ways in which those beloved characters could suffer and/or be comforted.

He remembers his father’s arm around his shoulder, his eyes dark and worried, his voice doing that thing it did whenever he was feeling too much and decided to feel nothing at all. I know you miss him, but you can’t fall apart on me like that, we’ve got a job to do.

He remembers trying.

*A/N: I deleted my own post last year about this WIP while going through a bad bout of anxiety. So, seeing as I've added a few new chapters since then, I thought I'd re-post. I really hope that's okay (and my apologies if I miss any PM's -- I'm apparently a complete moron, because I cannot for the life of me work the LJ inbox anymore. Not sure why).

***
This started out as a Sam-centric fic, and it still is, so fair warning about that; but my fondness for Dean and his struggles snuck in soon enough. So, this fic has caretaker!Dean who is also increasingly revealing and dealing with his own trauma, and we get his POV as well. I think that might be relevant here. The next chapter I'm working on seems to be relatively Dean-heavy, too.

Title: Away from These Shores (10/?)
Author:ever_dimming
Genre: Gen
Summary: A simple hunt leaves Sam in an altered state no one seems able to explain – at first. Pulling him out of it is not nearly as easy as it should be, especially since Dean is dealing with his own trauma(s).
Triggers / warnings: A lot of dissociation (mostly not Dean's, for now); occasional self-harm in later chapters; post-trauma, past violence & torture in hell and the Cage; occasional mentions of the Winchesters' painful upbringing. Some grief, since in this slightly AU Cas did not survive Swan Song, and Bobby & Ellen are around (but Jo is gone).

Title: Untitled [Dean, nightmare]
Author: ever_dimming
Category: Gen
Rating: teen and up (not familiar with the rating system, sorry)
Characters: Dean, Sam
Warnings: See tags, but nothing we don't see in / know from the Show
Disclaimer: Supernatural, its characters, plot lines etc. belong to their awesome creators. I am only suggesting fun new ways in which those beloved characters could suffer even more.

Summary:
If for no other reason, Sam believes in the existence of a god because there has GOT to be some twisted sense of humor behind giving night terrors to a man who sleeps with a gun under his pillow.
Dean is in no condition to appreciate the irony, though
.

Gen, post 1.09. The week following their visit to their childhood home is hard, and one night Dean suffers a massive nightmare. Sam tries to help -- not like he hasn't been through this with Dean before -- but this one hurts in whole new ways.

Rating: R

Title: Childhood III
Genre: gen, 9x23 "Do You Believe In Miracles?" tag
Characters: John (POV), Dean; Millie Winchester (pre-series)
Rating: PG-13

Warnings: use of racial slurs/the Vietnam War/Red Scare rhetoric, reference to suicide (non canon character)
Summary: In the moment between Dean's soul failing to ascend to Heaven, and Dean's soul returning to Earth a demon, John catches it. And, inasmuch as one can speak to an amorphous ball of sound and light and memory, they have a chat.

NB: Childhood is a three-part series set across S9 about childhood, parenthood, and how they weave into one another. Each part is thematically connected to the others, but can stand alone!

Title: Bildungsroman
Genre: gen, pre-series, northern Plains gothic
Characters: Dean, Bobby. Peripheral John, Sam. Bobby POV.
Rating: R
Word Count: ~2500
Warnings: This fic is gen in that it contains no romantic pairings; however, it discusses, imagines, and treats sex and sexuality as major themes. underage sexuality, non-explicit statutory rape, psychological trauma (sexual and otherwise), questionable parenting choices
Summary: Sex, drugs, and Totoros.
Notes: Inspired by Dean’s My Neighbor Totoro reference in 11x08 “Just My Imagination” and encouragement from [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal, [livejournal.com profile] septembers_coda, and [livejournal.com profile] brightly_lit in this comment thread. This is not, however, the cute fic such a prompt richly deserves, nor anything you might have expected or desired.

Title: Psychological Diagnostic Battery of Dean Winchester
Author: pirrofarfalla@Tumblr
Genre: meta; fic, of sorts
Character: Dean
Rating: SFW
Warnings: discussion concerning mental illness, specifically depression, alcohol use, and suicidal ideation
Summary: I wrote this essay for a Master’s level Diagnosis and Assessment class. It is an objective, complete psychological diagnostic battery that would be completed for any client seeking professional mental health aid.

Reccer's Comments: An interesting read for many hoodietimers, I'm sure. :) The part I was most interested in was the excision of any overt mentions of the supernatural in the exam, or as the author puts it, "I think the striking reality of Dean’s situation with the focus solely being on him and not the intervention of Heaven and Hell is enough to provide a broader understanding of who Dean Winchester is as a human, rather than [solely] as the Righteous Man." The battery goes from pre-series midway or so through S2. God, imagine what it would say now.

Title: Hail Mary
Author: [livejournal.com profile] justmep2
Characters: Dean, Sam. Mentions of Mary, John
Genre: Gen, Angst
Pairing: None
Warning: PTSD
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: 1,048
Spoilers: Coda to 9x07 Bad Boys
Disclaimer: Wish they were mine.
Summary: Dean never stopped talking after his mom died. Not really.
Author's Note: Dean broke my heart in 9x07 as he usually does, but it wasn't until the very end of the episode that this bunny came to sit on my lap and refused to leave. Dean knew how to make Timmy's mom ghost disappear and told Sam it was just a hail Mary, that he just got lucky. Not if you ask me.

Title: Hold Tomorrow Tightly (or, still more scenes from an alternate universe where Sam stole the Winchester boys in 1987)
Rating: PG-13
Words: 2,729
Spoilers: None really, AU.
Warnings: Vague reference to child abuse/neglect.
Summary: More of the Reverse Engineering universe. Sam contemplates time, history, and parenthood.
Neurotic author's notes: Pure, unadulterated cuddly fluff, because I've had a horrible few weeks and because classiczeppelin is a cool chick. Title comes from Neal A. Maxwell: "You rock a sobbing child without wondering if today's world is passing you by, because you know you hold tomorrow tightly in your arms." Cut text comes from my favorite speech from my favorite play (Arcadia) by my (second) favorite playwright (Tom Stoppard).

We shed as we pick up, like travellers who must carry everything in their arms, and what we let fall will be picked up by those behind. The procession is very long and life is very short. We die on the march. But there is nothing outside the march so nothing can be lost to it.
