The return of Throwback Thursday Flashback Friday! I have no idea what the difference between a throwback and a flashback even is, in meme parlance, but here at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time they are synonymous.

If, uh, "flashback" counts as flashing back to like, three days ago. This post contains spoilers for 9x21 "King of the Damned"--but not beyond that.

This post is dedicated to what I've here dubbed "magichands Sammy," AKA moments where Sam calls Dean back from elsewhere, with varying degrees of success and increasing physical (and/or demonstratively emotional?) distance.

4x06 - Dean hallucinates Lilith and demon!Sam )

8x02 - an interrogation triggers a Purgatory flashback )

9x16 - first use of the First Blade + bonus )

9x21 - 2 clips, descriptions contain spoilers )

I'm hesitant to offer any commentary or comparative thoughts, because there are so many ways to link or unlink these scenes I want you all to be free to make your own associations (or dissociations, as the case may be!). But I'd love, love, love to hear your thoughts, questions, hopes, fears, etc. <3

If you're going to talk about 9x21 or any confirmed spoilers for 9x22/9x23, please remember to place your commentary under a spoiler cut! You can C&P the code here:

Can you think of any other moments you'd like to add? Or non-"magichands" scenes that are interesting to think about in conjunction with these? I'm sort of thinking about 6x01, with soulless!Sam and the djinn, but I don't actually remember how that happened. I think Dean may have just passed out. XP

Three of my major fears are house fires, vehicular accidents, and drowning. Being that SPN has all but built itself around the first two, yeah, I'd say it's a horror show! :( Hurt/comfort is a genre that can often be more terrifying than titillating, and sometimes even a confusing amalgam of both. Tonight [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time brings you some clips from the iconic car crash that ended SPN's first season in a manner nothing short of heart-stopping (and also set up S2 for, imho, the best series premiere ever). There's plenty more H/C to mine in both 1x22 and 2x01, but trust me, there will be pleeeeentyyyy more time to spend on those delectable morsels.

In addition to footage from the end of 1x22/the beginning of 2x01, I've also included a clip from the last scenes in 6x22, which finally executes one of SPN's unrealized cinematic goals wrt car crashes--bookending S6 as a season of intense refiguring and revisitation of earlier canon.

Notes and more clips from 2x01 and 6x22 )

As a final note, as I was writing up this post the 1x22 clip started playing in the background and I completely flipped out. Some things never change! (And some things do: They get worse! XP This clip is four times more traumatizing than it was when I first saw it four years ago, in 2009.)

This post contains bonus hurt!Sam, hurt!John, and hurt!Bobby. Happy holidays!

It's Throwback Thursday! Short and sweet tonight, because like Sam and Dean in this clip, I too am sick. (Actually, not at all like Dean in this clip, which makes me happy for me and--ahahaha, sorry Dean, I guess that also makes me happy. :P)

After taking down War in 5x02 and Famine in 5x14, the Winchesters suddenly realize during 5x20 that there are only two more episodes in the season and they still have to deal with two Horsemen, Lucifer, Michael, and the Apocalypse.

So they decide that the thing to do is to take twelve minutes out of their busy lives to kill Pestilence!

But a worthy twelve minutes it is, because three of those comprise what I think of very fondly as The Pestilence Hallway Scene. AKA "Yes, that actually happened. Yes, on TV. Yes, you can totally rewind that multiple times."

Click for Clip! )

And because I think it's a personal affront that there is so much H/C in this clip and that thumbnail was the best YouTube could manage, some GIFs:

I don't have the source for these GIFs, I'm sorry. :( But if you can claim them, please do! Otherwise I will attribute them to [livejournal.com profile] maypoles, because the URLs lead to our [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time PhotoBucket account. Whoever made them clearly shares my taste in terms of the highlights of this scene. :D

Throwback Thursday is upon us! The stars have aligned on 3x09 "Malleus Maleficarum," the one with the coven of witches getting each other pottery prowess and lower mortgage rates.

AKA a classic. I'll be honest, I've never been quite sure why this episode exists, or why Dean/Jensen is talking so loud the sound stage echoes (or is that my laptop?), but hey, why not. If you have an opportunity to make someone's teeth fall out, and then turn someone's burger into a pile of maggots, and then slaughter some rabbits on a glass table, you really can't pass up the opportunity.

And if Dean spits up blood, well, I'm sold. XP I'm pretty sure I randomly end up watching this scene at least once a month. …And I may or may not have watched it multiple times this weekend.

A demon (pretending to be a part of a coven of witches) hexes Dean, and thing go downhill in a matter of minutes. Sam drives extremely fast in an attempt to stop the coven of witches that is actually a demon pretending to be a witch. Ruby, who is a demon but was at one point also a witch, kicks a door down and comes to the rescue!

Watch the long version on YouTube. [This clip might be blocked! D:] I wanted to give some context for the scene in terms of Ruby's relationship to Sam and Dean, and the circumstances within which this scene occurs (Dean's impending banishment to Hell, Sam's potential one-man crusade post-Dean's-mortem).

But if the long version doesn't work, or you don't need the refresher, here's JUST the H/Cest of this H/C scene!

Throwback Thursday time! :D I've chosen a single scene from 7x05 "Shut Up, Dr. Phil," not because it's the only Dean H/C scene (there's a lot of drinking and interpersonal drama in this episode, and also.. bees?) but because it's one of my favorites, and the first Winchester scene in 9x03 this past Tuesday made me recall it fondly.

The emotional repercussions of killing Amy/betraying Sam make themselves increasingly known, and contrast with Sam's buoyant response to… I'm actually not sure. Shit going down and managing to survive it, period. XP

I reference S9 in one sentence under the cut, though the reference is so general that if you know that SPN does, in fact, have an S9, you won't be spoiled.

A closer look. )

Got an episode or scene you'd like to throw back to? Let me know! Right now I'm kind of thinking of selecting a few "forgotten Dean H/C moments" out of some S4 episodes, like the near-hanging in 4x12 "Criss Angel is a Douchebag," the concussed!Dean scene in 4x15 "Death Takes a Holiday," and hmm I've always been fond of unconsciously-lying-on-a-coffee-table Dean in 4x04 "Metamorphosis."

If there's anything you'd like to see in these Throwbacks--more commentary, less commentary, Throwback-related fic/art recs, more clips, longer/shorter clips, whatever--just let me know! Always happy to oblige. :)

Welcome back to Throwback Thursdays! I've had a request for 3x14, "Long Distance Call", wherein Sam and Dean are increasingly desperately trying to find a way to wrangle Dean out of Hell's increasingly inevitable grasp. It is, again, not an episode that comes up a whole lot on rewatch; but I think the episode gets a bad rap for being "bad" because it's a MotW episode that just happens to be placed at the end of the season--having just rewatched it, I can tell you that actually, it's an awesome episode! And not even just because there are not one, but TWO great shots of bloodied!bondage wrists in it. (Alas they are Sam's wrists, do I didn't include them here, but trust me, worth the rewatch for that alone. Also, Sam's hair.)

3x14 Dean H/C highlights include:

sweaty!Dean, bruised!face!Dean, daddy issues, panicked!Dean, insomnia!Dean, Dean falling back on blind faith, probably the longest fight scene this show has ever had (excepting possibly Sam vs. shapeshifter!Dean in 1x06), concerned!pre-Hell Dean, Dean having a guilty phone conversation with John, Sam and Dean sharing a moment of tense solidarity in a motel room. I think Dean/hope is probably one of the most tragic ships to ever ship--and that's saying a lot in this fandom.

In Milan, Ohio, people are receiving calls from their dearly departed. Dean gets a call from his father:

To put this scene in perspective, I think it's generative to note that the first time Dean calls John, in 1x09 "Home," it's because he and Sam have returned to the original site of hell and trauma, their home in Lawrence. When Dean receives his call in 3x14, he's about a month out from the eternal trauma of Hell itself.

Um, ouch.

Winchesters/Communication UST -- Well they or won't they? )

Enjoy! Pull up a chair, drop a line… and if you've got an episode you'd like to throw back to, don't hesitate to ask! <3

HEAR YE, HEAR YE. It's Throwback Thursday again! And it's time to hearken back to 4x06 "Yellow Fever." Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] boysinperil for suggesting this episode!

While I was clipping this, it occurred to me that this is sort of reversal of 3x11 "Mystery Spot," because in 3x11, Sam was like OH GOD OH GOD YOU'RE DYING DEAN and Dean was like, derp derp; in 4x06 Dean is like OH GOD OH GOD I'M DYING (AGAIN) and Sam's just like, lol derpy derp derp. Sam don't have time for this bullshit. XP I'll just leave that here for you to interpret as you will.

It occurs to me that in addition to the essentially pornographic pleasures of regaling H/C moments, these may actually serve as useful ficcing and arting references. If you're interested in enhancing your grasp of H/C-related Dean body language, this is an excellent collection of clips! Featuring:

* expressions of fear
* hallucinations
* heart palpitations/cardiac arrest
* coughing
* choking
* anxiety/panic attack
* paranoia, as demonstrated via facial expressions
* lying exhausted on the ground
* looks of consternation as Dean contemplates Sam's demonic future
* Dean's lying face as he opts not to share his concerns wrt Sam's demonic future
* and as a bonus, Sam's FINE I guess I'm enabling your utterly transparent lies today face

Explications for the following clips may be truncated because my god, I am going to starve to death; it's one of those days where you really wish you owned a microwave because ovens are just so. Slow. And I am so. Hungry.

CLIP #1: With time ticking down, the pages swim before Dean's eyes, reminding him: You're dying; this isn't the first time. You know what happens next. This scene features one of my favorite recurring characters on SPN, the lovely Star Clock. (Also featured are coughing!Dean, sweaty!Dean, anxious!Dean, hallucinating!Dean, and any other slowly!dying!Deans you're likely to conceive of.)

And then Dean coughs up a wood chip, and then he hallucinates evil!Sam, and then bb!Lilith nearly gives in a heart attack, and after all that's over, and the ghost sickness is good and gone, Dean remains saddled with the knowledge that they're STILL screwed and sooner or later, everything's going to hell in a handbasket. Without the handbasket. )

Hey everyone: Welcome to Episode 1 of Throwback Thursday at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time, giving you the greatest in Dean H/C since… late September 2013! Here at Throwback Thursdays, we post a few clips of Dean H/C from a random episode, with commentary, in the hopes of re-living all of Dean H/C greatest hits*, stimulating discussion, the posting of related gifs, moans of ecstasy, really anything else this inspires for you.

Our first throwback is to 5x20 "The Devil You Know," written by Ben Edlund and directed by Robert Singer. If you can remember what this episode was about at all (I didn't), Dean H/C probably isn't the first thing to come to mind. It's not exactly "On the Head of a Pin."

Oh, but how wrong you are!

Please, join me in a clip show of good old fashioned demon vs. Dean beatdowns, Hellhound panic, post-demonic beatdown chair sitting, and a bonus clip of Dean trapped in a seriously suspect bathroom, because why not.

* Not in the "wow, this is such a classic Dean H/C moment" but in the "ouch, that must have hurt" sense of 'hit.' Uhhh yeah. XD

01. What I want is retribution. And I'm gonna rip it RIGHT OUT OF YOUR ASS.

This is extremely straightforward hurt!Dean. Highlights include: great preemptive facial expressions, Dean on the floor, abdominal bruising, blood/head wounds, Dean propping himself up against elevator doors, and shakily getting up off the floor.

I feel like standard procedure for "escaping murder in the penthouse" would be the same as "escaping fire in the penthouse," i.e. use the stairs, so the whole elevator deal is intriguing to me. The elevator is faster and easier, and probably closer, but if Silence of the Lambs taught me anything, they are also a Bad Idea. Of course, being thrown down several flights of stairs by demon!Brady probably isn't much healthier than being trapped in an elevator with him, so maybe "In case of emergency, use stairs" doesn't apply.

Cinematically, Dean stumbling around a dark, enclosed space with reflective walls was pretty cool, though.

Dean H/C of all stripes! )

Also, If you're not feeling the Dean H/C, the clip where Dean vs. Hellhounds clip begins with an extremely bad-but-nonetheless-hilarious zoom in to a box of salt. And questionable camerawork is always fun. XD

Nostalgia? Ecstasy? LOLs? Inspiration? Tell the world! Go wild.

* For future Throwback Thursdays, I am currently taking moment/episode requests, because my selection of 5x20 was completely arbitrary. What throwback do YOU want to see on [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time? Feel free to PM me at [livejournal.com profile] kalliel or e-mail me at ryuusenka @ gmail.com.
