And more than that, there's a horizon to the world into which that narrative intervenes. This is a fic with an ER that can't necessarily promise 24/7 supervision of one patient amongst many. Sure, it's a small detail, but it speaks to more than its face value; and this fic turns expertly on minutiae--from the taste of coffee to what the speaker does and does not see in Dean, to a dim smile of Sam's, which "must have been lovely once."
