Basically, everything in their lives is just how they want it to be. However when a serial killer dubbed the Creature starts to wreak havoc across the country, specifically hitting Tyngsborough twice, the town grabs the attention of the FBI.

Special Agent Victor Henriksen has been investigating this case for a year with no good results. Frustrated that the
Creature seems to be slipping his grasp each time, he gets himself to Tyngsborough, determined to catch the killer this time. His investigations lead him to the Winchester family, thus marking the beginning of everything that starts going wrong in the Winchesters' lives.

Title: Bildungsroman
Genre: gen, pre-series, northern Plains gothic
Characters: Dean, Bobby. Peripheral John, Sam. Bobby POV.
Rating: R
Word Count: ~2500
Warnings: This fic is gen in that it contains no romantic pairings; however, it discusses, imagines, and treats sex and sexuality as major themes. underage sexuality, non-explicit statutory rape, psychological trauma (sexual and otherwise), questionable parenting choices

Notes: Inspired by Dean’s My Neighbor Totoro reference in 11x08 “Just My Imagination” and encouragement from [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal, [livejournal.com profile] septembers_coda, and [livejournal.com profile] brightly_lit in this comment thread. This is not, however, the cute fic such a prompt richly deserves, nor anything you might have expected or desired.

Sex, drugs, and Totoros.

Title: No Such Story
Genre: gen
Characters: Dean (POV), Sam, a very well-read redneck harpy
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~1400
Warnings: disturbing imagery
Notes: Freewrite 3/10/2015. Playing with an S2 kind of vernacular, maybe. Which I guess means this is supposed to be funny but also sad and also scary? Spoilers for the last scene from 10x14 "The Executioner's Song," which is the only scene I've seen because clearly I have no self-control. Takes place mid-S2 and sometime post-10x14.

Your blood sprays in its eyes and the only thing you could've done to make this more Hollywood macho was bite the damn thing, but you don't because you'd been only twenty-seven at the time, and definitely on the market, and kind of a priss about your teeth.

Title: The New York Story
Author: frozen_delight
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Angst. Incest. Dark themes.
Spoilers: Up to and including 10x09 “The Things We Left Behind”.
Word count: ~ 4600
Beta: Many, many thanks to the fabulous canonisrelative who was once again incredibly kind and supportive and unbelievably quick. All remaining mistakes are mine of course.
Summary: To Sam it was always The New York Story.

A/N: Coda to 10x09 because I thought it was interesting that Dean’s reactions to the “John Winchester in New York” tale were quite different than Sam’s, and because I felt that the actions of teenager!Dean were wildly OOC, and could only be explained by the fact that this was the “sanitized for Sammy” version rather than what actually happened.

Title: Still Here I Carry My Old Delicious Burdens
Author: frozen_delight
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Warnings: Mild depictions of violence. Canon typical levels of angst and John Winchester appreciation. :)
Word count: ~ 2300
Beta: Many, many thanks to the fantastic anactoria for her generous and thoughtful help and advice. All remaining mistakes are mine of course.
Summary: “I get it.” Dean twisted the silver knife, watching her snake-like eyes bulge with pain and then go glassy. As he roughly pulled out the knife, she crumpled bonelessly over her partner’s dead body. Panting, he stared down at their ashen, reptilian corpses, and his mouth tasted of copper and his tongue felt numb, as though he hadn’t used it in a month. “Why you hunt in pairs.”
Set pre-series, though the inspiration for this story is a detail mentioned in 7x11 Adventures in Babysitting: While Sam is at Stanford, Dean has a run-in with a pair of vetalas.

A/N: For my dear friend canonisrelative. Merry Christmas!

Word Count: 25.5K
Characters: Dean, Sam, Cas, John, Bobby
Pairings: Gen
Warnings: Child abuse, implied prostitution, show level violence and blasphemy, swearing.
Spoilers: Seasons 2 to 5. Season 8.
Disclaimer: None of the characters are mine, I'm just playing with them. The title is from Chinua Achebe's book, a book I highly recommend.

Summary:
When given his duty of guarding the First Seal, Castiel expects the Righteous Man and his Boy King brother. He does not expect to find two boys who fight and tease and defend each other over and over again. While Castiel may know a lot about fate and destiny, he’s about to learn a little bit about free will.

Author Note: This story wouldn't be half of what it is if it weren't for my amazing betas, mb64 and katzenspn. They are both a delight to work with and have been a huge help in pointing out my Britishisms and generally highlighting the numerous times I've written something completely idiotic. Any mistakes that remain are wholly mine as I honestly think these two girls can't go wrong.

Another huge thank you to the artist that collaborated with me: uke_sama_sensei. Her artwork truly brings this story to life and it was an absolute pleasure to work with her. Her art masterpost can be found here.

Please leave me your thoughts. Feedback is hugely appreciated.

Rating: PG
Genre: Outsider POV, wee!chesters, angst, hurt/comfort
Word Count: ~5,500
Summary: Nothing kindergarten teacher April Huxley has ever learned can tell her what to do when adorable, troubled little Dean Winchester falls into her life—or when he vanishes abruptly back out of it.

April was only in her third year of teaching kindergarten, but she’d already learned to tell if something wasn’t quite right with a family.

Title: All the Empty Spaces
Rating: PG
Characters: Dean, Sam, John
Genre: Gen
Warnings: eating disorders, language
Summary: A sequel to Rules for Hunting, "a future companion piece where the urge comes back or something, but this time Sam is the one that's there, and he doesn't remember Dean ever having this problem before."
[identity profile] procrastin8or9.livejournal.com
Title: Rules for Hunting
Rating: PG for language, eating disorders
Characters: Dean, Sam, John, mention of Bobby. Gen
Word Count: ~2600
Summary: Written for the prompt at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time: Dean had bulimia. "Had" being rather loosely defined- the main thing is that Dean's not binge eating or throwing up anymore and in traditional Winchester fashion the issue's been swept under the carpet. Except that John's been gone on a hunt longer than expected and the food supply is running low. Dean's been sneakily giving most of it to Sam and is starving hungry and worried about where John is. Eventually John gets back on halloween, with food, and Dean manages to choke down some dinner like a normal person. But John's also brought back some candy for trick or treaters- exactly the sort of thing Dean used as binge food. John can't work out why Dean's so jittery, until he realises that with his blood sugar all messed up and the worry Dean's worried about relapsing.

At my journal here

Hope it satisfies!

Song: "Shadowman" by K's Choice
Characters: Dean; Sam, Castiel, special guest at the end
Genre: gen
Tags: mark of cain, depression, abandonment issues, identity issues, supernatural powers, blood loss, lacerations, injury (misc.), death, daddy issues, emotional pain, psychological damage
Warnings: Spoilers through 9x23, angsty angst
Description: Dean and his journey in season 9.
"Any time tomorrow a part of me will die / And a new one will be born / Any time tomorrow / I'll get sick of asking why / Sick of all the darkness I have worn"

Reccer's Commentary: I left an effluent comment on the video itself, so I'm just going to copy that here if no one minds. If it's tl;dr basically my commentary is WATCH THIS NOW. Or set aside a time when you have six minutes of uninterrupted time to spare, because this deserves your full, unrushed attention. Or possibly more than six minutes, if you choose to watch it again immediately upon finishing it. Which I may or may not need to do a few more times, er:

This video put my heart in my throat and kept it there the entire six minutes. This is phenomenal.

I particularly liked your pairing of Sam and Castiel walking away from Dean in 9x23 and Dean walking away from them in 9x10--it had really great flow, visually, and the juxtaposition of those two scenes both thematically and emotionally just blew me away. [...]

And wowwwwww that last bit! Your pairing of John's last words and Dean's is a stroke of genius--it never once would have occurred to me to make that connection (or to remember John's words), and my initial reaction to the scene when I first watched 9x23 was basically just like, "lol Dean what part of this past year are you proud of us for, exactly." And I really haven't been sure what to do with the line, because I couldn't find any resonance for it. But here is one interpretation right in this vid! And it's a beautiful one.

I guess in a similar vein I've had trouble for the latter part of S9 maintaining my emotional, immediately personal connection to SPN, instead drifting off in a haze of more cerebral glee and idk almost pornographic meta enjoyment of their pain. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I mean. XD But I prefer to be emotionally devastated and then thrilled by that devastation, rather than skip that first step, you know?

This vid put me right there in that emotional sweet spot. [...]

Title: Psychological Diagnostic Battery of Dean Winchester
Author: pirrofarfalla@Tumblr
Genre: meta; fic, of sorts
Character: Dean
Rating: SFW
Warnings: discussion concerning mental illness, specifically depression, alcohol use, and suicidal ideation
Summary: I wrote this essay for a Master’s level Diagnosis and Assessment class. It is an objective, complete psychological diagnostic battery that would be completed for any client seeking professional mental health aid.

Reccer's Comments: An interesting read for many hoodietimers, I'm sure. :) The part I was most interested in was the excision of any overt mentions of the supernatural in the exam, or as the author puts it, "I think the striking reality of Dean’s situation with the focus solely being on him and not the intervention of Heaven and Hell is enough to provide a broader understanding of who Dean Winchester is as a human, rather than [solely] as the Righteous Man." The battery goes from pre-series midway or so through S2. God, imagine what it would say now.
