A friending meme for fans of Dean-focused h/c!
At the request of a few of you, it's friending meme time again! <3 This is a friending meme for fans of Dean-centric hurt/comfort, so you TOTALLY don’t have to be a watcher or member of the comm to participate, but you should be a fan of Dean and his epic manpain.
We all must know how these things work by now, but just in case - you copy, paste, and fill out what you want to from the comment form below as a comment to this post, say hey to anyone who you think looks like fun, and hopefully make some new friends in the process.
I only ask that there are no spoilers for future eps, character/pairing bashing, or rudeness in general, pleeease.
Feel free to PM me or e-mail me at hoodietime [at] gmail [dot] com if you have any questions about the meme.

How are you involved in fandom? (ie: author, beta, icon-maker, vidder, voracious reader, etc.) Hee. I'm a voracious reader foremost. I sometimes write episode reviews at my LJ when time permits. I'm also an occasional beta for a friend, and I make a few icons (make it very few)...
Other fandoms? J2, Battlestar Galactica, The Guardian. There are other shows & movies I enjoyed, i.e. LOTR, Rome, POTC, etc, but I was never in their respective fandoms.
Favourite characters (besides the bros): At the moment, whenever Death comes on screen, my heart beats faster. But I also liked Crowley, Alastair, Zachariah, YED as baddies, and John as...well John. As for the girls, I adored Lisa, young!Mary and enjoyed Bela's deviousness and moral ambiguity. For non recurring characters, I loved Jamie, the beauty who killed the moster in Monster Movie, and Amanda, the well adjusted flight attendant in Phantom Traveler.
Favourite ships, if any: Dean and Sam are my OTP, either gen or slash, I'm not picky. I also love J2 (my other OTP), but I consider that as a different fandom.
Wincest, y/n? Y
RPF/J2, y/n? Y
Spoilerphobe, spoiler-crazy, or none of the above? I'm a spoiler whore trying to reform.
Talk to us about your thoughts on hurt/comfort. (How/when did you first discover your love for h/c, whatever.) I first discovered my love for h/c when I got into reading fanfictions in Battlestar Galactica fandom. I love the exploration of vulnerability in an otherwise strong and resilient character, and how that vulnerability awakes all kinds of emotions (some may even have been buried or suppressed) in the loved ones, and what choices they would have to make to cope with seeing their beloved getting hurt, and what they can do to help (thus they themselves rise up to the occasions as well). In SPN fandom, I LOVE reading hurt!Dean stories. The reason has a lot to do with Jensen's amazing ability to layer subtle vulnerabilities when portraying a badass Dean. But I can hardly stand hurt!Sam unless he was hurt alongside Dean. I guess this is because IMHO Sam in canon, for the most part, is always in need of protection. So I think when Sam breaks out of his character and becomes the protector instead, he really shines.
What’s your fave kind of h/c, if any? (ie: emotional hurt, physical hurt, illness, etc.) I love all kinds of h/c, but I'm not a big fan of permanent injury. I guess this is me being shallow.
What other characters do you read h/c fic about, if any? (On SPN, or otherwise.) Besides hurt!Dean, I also LOVE hurt!Jensen. I guess this maybe a form of character bleed. Besides, Jensen's beautiful face borders "delicate" IMHO, and something this delicate is always easily damaged, thus it invokes a strong protectiveness in me.
Anything else? Let's see, English isn't my native language, is that important?

Date: 2011-03-06 09:00 pm (UTC)I like your thoughts on h/c. I can't say that I ever linked the vulnerability of the character to the appeal of h/c fic but I can see how it does indeed add to the appeal. Esp in the strong and tough characters.. interesting. You have made me ponder... *ponders*

Date: 2011-03-07 06:28 pm (UTC)I love a character strong and resilient yet all too human, and I love to see what happens when that character gets hurt -- I'm afraid I'm quite evil to my favorite characters. To make the matter worse, Dean Winchester is otherworldly gorgeous when he is hurt, be it emotionally or physically, so I'm addicted to hurt!Dean. \o/

Date: 2011-03-07 06:50 pm (UTC)Hee, I know I just said I'm not a big fan of permanent injuries due to my shallow vanity, however I always make exceptions whenever I run into skilled writers. I'm currently reading your "Riders on the Storm" and I'm already hooked even before I finish the first chapter!

Date: 2011-03-07 07:32 pm (UTC)Glad to see we have so much in common in regard to our taste in fanfictions! ;p
Back to h/c, in my days of lingering in the BSG fandom, we had a discussion where someone mentioned there was an article written online that suggested h/c, even the gen variety, is linked to sexual fantasies. None of us back then quite agreed to what was written because for us, when we hurt our favorite character, it was always about exploring the characters (the one who got hurt, and those who cared about him), see how they rise up to deal with the situation, all the while re-examine the relationship(s) between these characters. Thus vulnerability is a big factor in our love for h/c.
