The 411 on Rec Searches:

For fun, a mod will occasionally put together one of these rec searches. (You can still make your own rec post at any time, fyi.) Rec search info and a rec search masterlist can be found HERE, and you can leave any suggestions for types of rec searches you would like to see there.

This time, we're focusing on case!fanworks. From short pieces relating to a salt and burn, moody horror pieces, crackish hilarity, epic plotty longfics, to anything in between, go forth and rec your favorites! This category is a little trickier for art and vids, but any artwork that has a case!story to it, or is a comic, or involves monsters, or any other thing that screams "case!" to you is cool with us. As long as it also kinda relates to hurt!Dean, we want it!

I'm pretty sure I found most of these casefics here in this comm but in case some folks missed them (or if I didn't find them here), here's a list of some of my favs:

Reccer's comments: I love flashback casefics and this fic is one of the reasons. Not sure if the fic itself counts as horror, but the author does a great job of bringing out the horror of the past and how it fits with the current situation Dean and Sam are dealing with. It's almost like 2 casefics for the price of 1!

Reccer's comments: A great Supernatural/Criminal Minds crossover where the Winchesters and the BAU are in town trying to solve the same crime. Some great OCs and nice family moments before the case gets crazy and Dean gets hurt.

Reccer's comments: This fic is full of angry Dean and angry Sam moments. Takes place in season 1, before they get their sea legs hunting together and back when Sam still really wanted to return to Stanford. Only Dean being targeted by their perp allows Sam to realize how much Dean means to him.

Reccer's comments: I truthfully can't even remember the case part of this fic because there's so much Dean hurt going on. This fic does an amazing job handling Dean's depression and all manner of addiction. He spirals down such an angsty hole it becomes questionable if even Sam can bring him back.

Reccer's comments: Dean and Sam are separated by a vengeful spirit, both hurting and near death. Dean fights near drowning, hypothermia, and much needed hospitalization to find Sam and beat this spirit. So much pain on both ends of this fic, bookended by a really wonderful casefic and so much brotherly love.

Reccer's comments: This is one of my favorite Dean-John interaction fics ever. It shows what seems like a very possible interaction between adult Dean and adult John when both get hurt on a case and Dean is forced to solve another one (and their money problems) with minimal input from John.

Reccer's comments: Another of those wonderful flashback casefics that I love, including a group of Sam's Stanford friends and how they just rub Dean the wrong way. A lot of brother arguments but a lot of brotherly love, too, just how we like it.

Reccer's comments: A demon is using humans to complete a ritual and leaving the humans...less than human, less than alive; then Dean becomes a victim and Sam can't let him go. I can't even give an accurate comment on this besides completely shiver-worthy. Definitely one of the best horror fics I've read and chock full of hurt Dean.

(She often hurts both guys in the same fic, and I know some comm members prefer no hurt!Sam, so the one I am reccing here that is one of the most hurt!Dean-focused.
