Throwback Thursday: Dean H/C Highlights from S4 - "The Forgotten Foursome"

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, Throwback Thursday-ers! This week's kind of a grab bag, S4 style. I tried to pick out a few of my favorite "forgotten," random, "wait, that happened?" moments of Dean H/C. Well, mostly H, but it's Sam to the rescue in half of them, so there's that! That's C, right??

In other, but related, news: 1) Wow, S4 is great. 2) And weird as hell. 3) Was it Halloween all year long in this season? I'M PRETTY SURE IT WAS. ALL THE HALLOWEEN EPISODES. Cannibals, the undead, immortal witches, immortal magicians, monster movie shapeshifters, and even feral children locked in the basement of an abandoned farmhouse.

No, but seriously, I'm pretty sure it was legitimately October for like, nearly half the season.

Also, bonus laryngitis!Jensen this season, because being an actor sucks. XP I tried to look up more specific info for you guys, but I wasn't super successful. (My search did land me on SneezeFetishForum.Org, though, if that's up your alley!)

4x02 "Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Winchester"
-pain
-supernatural injury
-guilt complex (which isn't a tag, but maybe it should be)

Henricksen is great, Dean's pained expression is great, and the last exchange in this clip is the greatest:

SAM: Are you okay?
DEAN: No!

And then Sam helping him off the ground, awww. <3333

4x05 "Monster Movie"
-altered state
-drugs/drugged
-dizziness
-fainting

I have two favorite parts in this clip--that moment, right when Jamie starts acting a little strange, and there's that instant where Dean catches on, then starts to register the same feeling in himself. BE STILL MY HEART. And then the part where he tries to fight the Roofie Lady/Shapeshifter, but ends up needing to steady himself against the table instead. GUH. Altered states. <3

OMG WAIT IS 4x05 THE EPISODE WITH OKTOBERFEST AND THE BIG PRETZEL? D: Must return to that at a later point. I love the big pretzel. :(

4x07 "It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester"
-hell/post-hell issues
-PTSD

Short one, which actually does get a decent amount of play in Dean H/C fandom, but as it's one of two Dean H/C scenes in the entire episode, if it didn't get mention here I can't imagine when else I'd clip it. XD (The other one is just Dean being thrown into a wall, which happens so often it could probably be a post in itself if I got really ambitious.) I love how minute his outward reaction is, yet how unsettling even that manages to be. Especially his continuing, unmasked (pun unintended) discomfort when Sam takes up the conversation again.

4x12 "Criss Angel is a Douchebag"
-asphyxiation
-cough/coughing
-rather, attempted hanging

I was reminded of this when I was looking through that deanwinchestergifs blog I linked the other day. I'd totally forgotten this scene!!! The closest thing I could remember was Sam being choked by an evil lamp in 1x09 (also a great scene). But this scene is amazing and deserves to be remembered.

The best part is when Dean finally gets let down, and he hits the ground and just kind of lurches sideways, gulping air. MY FAVORITE. THIS WHOLE POST IS MY FAVORITE.

Clip explications are less analytic, more squee this week, because it's Halloween, man!

All good, tense scenes and moments. I like them all, I don't think I can quite choose a favorite.

I do enjoy any time the boys have had their air choked off (demon, rope, etc) - it's so tense because the stakes are high and you know there's not much time before they pass out/die. And that deep breath in and rasp in their voice right after is always something that tugs my heart.

Lol, I also looked around that Sneeze website for a minute (well, you post up a link and I can't *not* click on it) and they make some good points about strained, sick voices sounding pretty awesome. I'd have to say that same thing for how Sam and Dean's voices get after they've been choked by demons and they call out for each other.

Also, I could go on about PTSD-Dean all day, but it's late so today is not that day :)

I agree so much. ALSO, I'D LIKE TO ALERT SHOW TO THE EXCELLENT POSSIBILITY OF NEAR-DROWNING OR ANY WATER-BASED HUNT, REALLY.

Oh thanks for posting these! Season 4 on the whole is my favourite - so much angsty,guilty, sad and haunted Dean! I love Hendrickson too & wish he'd been around more. Dean's face when he learns what Lillith did is so full of pain and guilt, especially his eyes, just reminds me that Jensen is a very underrated actor. And so beautiful when he's hurting! Thanks again!

He does such a great job with those minute little facial reactions, it's really very stunning. When I was skipping through a bunch of different S4 episodes I was like MAN THIS SEASON WAS GREAT. MAN HOW DOES THIS SEASON EXIST. MAN THIS WEIRD EPISODE WITH THE FERAL CHILDREN. XDD
