This is the post for authors/artists for the mini challenge to look for inspiration if they’d like, but anyone can comment here, whether you’re participating in the challenge or not. You can TOTALLY use your own ideas, btw; this is just optional for anyone who likes working with a more specific prompt. ;)

You can prompt with as little or as much detail as you want – a single sentence or something more involved, as long as your prompt is related to sick!Dean. Just no spoilers for upcoming/unaired episodes, please.

There will be no official claiming of prompts for this, and multiple takes on the same concept are very much welcomed. Of course, if you want to let the prompter know you’re working off their prompt or whatever that’s awesome! Also, this is not a comment meme, so please do not post any fills to this thread; instead remember to follow the submission guidelines outlined here.

Dean/Sam slash. sick!Dean got so bad he had to be hospitalized. Dean keeps begging to leave, but Sam won't let him leave until he's recovered enough. How does Dean find out it's time? Because Sam initiates quiet, careful, and OMG-it's-been-so-long hospital bed sex.

The boys are on a hunt. Dean's sick, but it's just a cold. No biggie. He can keep hunting. No problem. But he keeps sneezing at precisely the wrong times (during every single "whatever you do, don't sneeze NOW" moment), which gets them further and further into trouble. Dean refuses to admit out loud it's his fault they wind up tied up in a monster's lair or trapped in a room with a bomb or something, but deep down he feels guilty and wants to be the one to get them both to safety.

Sam doesn't remember Dean getting often sick when they were kids; Sam was usually the one who picked up whatever was going around at school. But now that they're back on the road together he does remember the sure sign that Dean was really sick and not just complaining like a girl was that he got quiet. The lack of chatter from Dean is disturbing to Sam, and the longer it continues the more stressed out Sam is about it.

Idk, I have this thing about embarrassed!Dean.

Dean doesn’t mind getting hurt so much. He’s not macho about it for the most part; he lets Sam take care of him when he’s hurt badly enough to need it. Ever since he was a kid, getting hurt on a hunt, unless he’d screwed something up, had made him feel good. Brave. And dad would maybe pat him on the shoulder, and give him that look, like maybe he was proud of him.

Being sick was/is different, though. He knows rationally that it’s not a weakness, but it sure feels like one. He’s ridiculously embarrassed by it and tries to hide his symptoms until he can’t anymore and Sam doesn’t get it but he’s willing to tryyyy.

Art prompt. Inspired by the banner for this challenge... there is sadly very little art out there with Dean getting his temperature taken. So, something to do with that. Sam waving a thermometer in Dean’s unimpressed face, whatever. Any genre/pairing.

Awhile ago, Dean was injured and had a ruptured spleen that had to be removed. The spleen is important to the immune system, so this leads to lots of illnesses and sick! days. (More info on this can be found here (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/splenectomy/MY01271/DSECTION=risks).) You can take this wherever you want. Gen or Sam/Dean preferred.

Note: I always wanted to write something like this myself, btw, just so you know that might happen someday (although it most likely won’t, because I have been thinking about it for forever tbh) But yeah, my one ficcish ~goal in fandom is to one day write a fic about clinically depressed! Dean, so the full idea behind it is that it would be a curtain!fic scenario with clinically depressed! Dean and the physical illnesses would make him feel even more useless and the two things would sort of combine in this not-so-fun combination that would lead to the breakdown I have been craving from Dean for all eternityyyy. Please feel free to use as much or as little of that scenario as you’d like. I'm open to a much lighter take on the prompt and will love anything to do with this theme, seriously. <3

I can't get enough of girls taking care of Dean when he's feeling lousy, and there's just not enough of it out there! I'd love to read about a sneezing and coughing Dean with bruised ribs and possibly a concussion, being taken care of by a girl we all know. Preferably Lisa, but Jo, Ellen or Jody Mills would also do! Or all of them ;)

So, Dean is sick and feverish and totally refusing to admit it. This works out temporarily, because Dean is all surly and grouchy and good at generally irritating people and getting them to leave him alone, but eventually his fever spikes up and the hallucinations start. Turns out it's a whole lot harder to hide how sick you are when you're seeing Alistair around every other corner.

Any potential caretaker is welcome, but Lisa, Sam, or Cas are my favorites. :)

Purgatory was never meant to house the human body. When Dean comes back, they gradually realize something’s very wrong with him. Any sort of sick!Dean would work, any genre/pairing.

I thought I saw glimpses of this in the first few eps, but that could just be wishful thinking. :)

Whatever Dean was eating in Purgatory, it wasn't what you'd call well-balanced meals. And adjusting back to 'real' food is harder than he expected.

Dean's thin, borderline underweight (despite Sam's bitching at him to eat something), and his immune system really isn't up to dealing with flu season...
