[identity profile] hoodietime.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] hoodie_time
Okay guys, so LJ has gotten rid of subject lines for comments. ;_; I KNOW.

This obviously screws up comment-memes all over LJ, among other things. Our current comment-fic meme has sub lines again because I just allowed customized comment pages, which apparently fixes things if you have a plus or paid account - for the time being, anyway. And fyi, we'll probably be temporarily changing the comm's layout later as well to make the comment-pages prettier/more minimal. Buuuut, yeah. Things can go on as normal at the meme for now, so yay for that!

To do what I just did, follow these directions. Thanks to everyone who shared that link with us. <333

And the LJ release including this change can be found here, if you want to let LJ know your feelings on it. Another appropriate place to direct complains to is here.

Seriously. Memes kind of make my life, haha.

Subject lines are important.

They did add a note to the Russian post (http://igrick.livejournal.com/528687.html) about it, in English, because that makes sense, that says:

"
A note to users of RP, Meme and other communities, where subject line is crucial for operation: for the moment we are developing only standard commenting representation, well know in LiveJournal as S1 styles, but we will keep subject lines, both in terms of form and representation, in advanced — S2 — styles, and provide an ability to keep it forever for certain communities, as well as, by request, will develop an extra functionality for such communities thru OpensSocial applications going public next year."

That's almost something at least? They aren'tcompletely ignoring the outcry against it like always

Thank-youuuu for the link. ♥

I wonder what they're referring to when they say 'certain communities,' hmm.

Will read some h/c now to get through these dark times.
;)
seems like dreamwidth is working on enabling community import - it might be a good idea to back-up h_t in case all the subject lines vanish permanently or something.

::cries:: Don't even suggest such a thing!

But, good idea. I... have no idea how to do that, but I'll check with my other mods.

Will read some h/c now to get through these dark times.

I approve of that plan! <333

To be fair, it doesn't seem like they're trying to overhaul the underlying structure of the site or delete information but the way they implement major changes without any advance warning or respect to userbase feedback is worrying. :/

For the import you only need to set up an account (no invite needed right now) and import here: https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/importer
I don't want to move to dw or anything and community import is still unavailable but I'm scared about h_t's content :´D
Judging from their twitter (http://twitter.com/dreamwidth) they are currently working on making community import available.

Yay, thanks! ;D

I just set up the comm over there and will back-up/import when comm imports become available. There's nothing else I can/any other way to save content for now, is there?

Awesome! There's nothing else I'm aware of. :/ I don't know anything about IJ though.
Man, I'm so just disappointed with how lj is handling this. Can't imagine how enraging it must be if you've paid money for functions they're not offering anymore. I don't know if you've read it but for the site-overhaul they plan to only have one icon comment line (which makes sense because keywords are superfluous with the new comment interface) - but not sure what will happen to the info there!

Nooo, I didn't know that. I'm just sort of noticing the other changes they've made/are planning now. I was blinded by my GRARRGH over this issue, haha.

Noooooo ;_; I don't understand this, because everyone seemed dead set against this and informed LJ as being so. *cuddles with meme*

*cries*

it looks so...wrong in custom mode ;_;

Not that that's your fault. And not like the new bland? non-custom? blue/white comment pages look any better.

I knowwww. ;_; I'm such a fan of the minimalism of the old, non-customized comment-pages.

One of my lovely co-mods is going to look at altering the code for the comment-pages/making it prettyyyy, but because of the time of year, etc., it could be awhile.

you should try talking to the blindfold mods. Looks like they have come up with a theme that looks almost exactly like the old non-customized comment sections.

We know how to do that, actually, it's just that if we change to the layout that has the best current comment section, it will possibly screw up the front page of the site (links lists and sidebar coding.)

We'll probably change it temporarily anyway, though. These comment-pages are giving me sadface. ;(

But the subject line still appears, it's just looks like a title over the comment instead of being next to the userpic.

I don't get why people are freaking out so much tbh *shrugs*
To each their own I guess...

We do currently have sub lines back here at the comm, yes. ;) Although it seems to be a temporary fix.

I see your point - I wouldn’t care so much on my own journal - but for communities like this one, the issue is that subject titles wouldn’t show up in your e-mail/inbox.

For comment memes like the one we have going on right now, which currently has 2500-ish comments, that means that if they make this change for good, people wouldn’t be able to put ‘FILLED’ or titles in their subject lines, which would make it impossible for me as a mod to follow fills and add them to the masterlist, or for anyone tracking the meme to know when something has been filled, and basically render comment-memes impossible to run in general on LJ.

Oh I see what're you saying!
Thanks for explaining this to me. Aannnd that totally sucks. I wish pages like this would stop trying to "improve" when nobody has complained about what they are doing in the first place. It always ends with the "improvement" being crap and people going crazy xD

Yeah, I'm still sad about the changes to delicious as well. It just doesn't work for comm purposes very well anymore.

...but! what happened to the pretty pinks?! ok, so a change in the page is a good thing... I will now go and secretly mourn for the lack of fiusha's!

Glad you like.

Yeah, it currently doesn't work to use the type of layout the pretty pink layout was, and use these as-close-to-the-old-style-as possible comment pages at the same time. ;(
