Hey, hey. Once again, I’d love your input on what and when our next challenge should be.
Last time I put on one of these posts,
neonchica came up with the idea for the Writing Between the Lines challenge, which was super awesome. I actually have a few more ideas of my own this time around, so let me know what you think of them, what times are best for you to participate, and of course feel free to throw ideas for different types of challenges at me too. I’m really open to anything. ;)
We’re going to be doing another fic challenge (like our first challenge in this comm, from foreverrrrr ago) SOON, but first, as BBs/summergen/etc. are still in full swing, I’d like to do a smaller challenge. See the next point.
For a smaller challenge/one with a lower minimum word-count, I’d like to do a tags challenge, where (author or artists) who wish to participate will be given three (?) h/c prompts from our tags-list, and will then have to write/create for one of them. You’d be able to let me know before I give you your prompts if there are any prompts that are triggery for you/you’d rather not receive. Then, if you finished your first fic/art, and want another set of prompts, I’d give it to you, and on and on until the time period is up.
I’ve been wanting to do a challenge like this for awhile. It would be even more low-key than usual (since you’re not writing for anyone in particular’s prompt, if you had to drop out I wouldn't even ask that you let me know) and fun. The only problems with it I can see is how I’d pick the prompts. Like, is there some sort of online put-names-in-a-hat thing? How do they pick prompts at the Bingo comms, for example? Anyone know?
An art-only challenge. I really have no other details on that worked out yet, but I’ve been talking it over with some artsy people.
ANYWAY. ♥

Date: 2011-06-26 03:06 pm (UTC)And I can’t really explain the Bingos because I’ve never participated in one either, but I gobble up the fic they produce. Love them to bits.

Date: 2011-06-26 02:54 pm (UTC)I love the idea of a three prompts challenge. I know that there's some kind of online generator, but beyond that, I'm clueless. :-)
What about something like the spn springfling? Maybe in the fall?

Date: 2011-06-26 03:16 pm (UTC)And mmm, I loved springfling! I’ve always been hesitant to do fic exchanges, though, and have stuck to lower key challenges instead. This is because I live in fear of not being able to find enough pinch-hitters and the possibility of having to be more modly than I am kind of freaks me out, honestly. But they’re so much FUN, and I think they'd work well here at the comm, so maaaaaybe.

Date: 2011-06-26 05:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, the tag challenge would be a 1000 word or maybe even 500 word min. challenge, so maybe you could swing it.

Date: 2011-06-26 04:35 pm (UTC)As for pitching challenge ideas, I've been cooking one up for a while now but since it's rather likely I'll never get around to host it myself... *headdesk* Nothing revolutionary, though, it'd be kind of a remix challenge for artists and writers alike. Might be too general for this comm, but if you're interested in details anyway, let me know.
ETA: Sorry for the editing, yours truly is battling a hangover and a little beside herself. AHEM.

Date: 2011-06-26 05:37 pm (UTC)And yeah, if you want to share, I'd love to hear about your idea (you can PM or e-mail me if you'd rather.) Is it very different from the remix challenge we did here a few months ago?
P.S. Feel better. Drink some tea; I find it makes everything better. <3

Date: 2011-06-26 05:37 pm (UTC)I really loved the autumn/fall comment fic meme we did last year! I like the idea of having more comment fic memes revolving around a certain theme like that.
Also, I once thought of the idea of like a song/lyric thing, where you prompt a line/lyric from a song and then people can choose to write a fic that would go along with that.

Date: 2011-06-26 05:44 pm (UTC)Aaaand if you (or anyone reading this!) has any other ideas for themes, I'd love to hear them.

Date: 2011-06-26 06:12 pm (UTC)The problem, of course, is that everything you read prior to tackling that prompt can influence what you're writing. So, I don't know how it would work at all. Plus there's the huge problem of the prompt not being appealing to a large number of people, thereby diminishing the amount of fic/art generated. Foo. My ideas are problematic. Maybe if there were four or five prompts? Do not know. Nor do I know who would have the task of coming up with said prompts. This idea, she is broken. LOL
I do like the idea of the tags generator challenge a lot. That could be much fun. And after the first week of July, I'll have time to indulge.

Awesome! I'm currently aiming for early July, so hopefully that will work out.

Date: 2011-06-26 09:15 pm (UTC)Anyway, I found a list randomizer: http://www.random.org/lists/
You could just list up all tags and then after randomizing just pick the three on top as prompts or something. Maybe this helps?
I'm looking forward to the challenge in any form :)

Date: 2011-06-30 06:39 pm (UTC)And thanks, again, for the good ideas! The basic idea I now have worked out for the first art challenge is different than this, but I'll keep this comment in mind for the future for sure. I do like the laid back challenges.
