Genre/pairing: Gen
Rating: G
Word-count: 2,095
Spoilers: None. Pre-series.
Warnings: None
Summary: Sometimes imaginary friends... aren't.
Reccer’s comments: Twisty and gut-punch-y and just well-done all around.
ETA: I've just been informed in the comments that this fic was remixed at
kamikazeremix. The remix is called Everything's A-Okay (The Cuckoo's Nest Remix) by
ignipes, who is awesome!
Title: Whitewash

Tags: drugs (psychiatric), hospitalization (psychiatric), hallucinations, hell/post-hell issues, mental illness, suicide attempt, schizophrenia, supernatural trauma
Characters: Dean, Sam, OCs
Genre/pairing: Gen, AU
Rating: R
Word-count: 7167
Spoilers: Heavy S3 and vague for S1 and S2
Warnings: None
Summary: “People with schizophrenia sometimes hear voices others don’t hear, believe that others are broadcasting their thoughts to the world, or become convinced that others are plotting to harm them. These experiences can make them fearful and withdrawn and cause difficulties when they try to have relationships with others.” (NIMH, 2008).
Reccer’s comments: A really original take on the trope of institutionalized!Dean, this is CREEPY, and so very gripping.
Title: In God's Country
Author:
twoskeletons
Tags: Dean’s deal, hallucinations/mental illness (mentioned)
Characters: Dean, Castiel, Sam, John
Genre/pairing: Gen, AU
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: 5600
Spoilers: Set during Stanford era and pre-series, with bits of other seasons. Spoilers for 1x06, 4x01, S3, and 5x16.
Warnings: None
Summary: Written for the AU prompt, "Castiel is Dean's imaginary friend". Sort of.
Reccer’s comments: Dean’s voice is amaaaazing here, acerbic and self-aware. And I loved the bright imagery used, particularly in Dean’s trippy dreams. They really made for a great atmosphere.
Title: Straight on 'till Morning

her_own_write
Tags: hell/post-hell issues, hospitalization, mutism/voice loss, physical assault/abuse, psychological issues
Characters: Dean, Castiel, Sam, John, Alastair
Genre/pairing: Dean/Castiel pre-slash, AU
Rating: PG-13
Word-count: 4.5k
Spoilers: Setting is pre-series & season 4.
Warnings: violence/torture
Summary: When Dean was younger, he had an imaginary friend. But everybody has to grow up sometime, and Dean’s too old to believe in angels.
Reccer’s comments: This is inventive and absolutely gorgeous. Written for
dc_everafter and based on Peter Pan, it has all the wonder of a fairy tale and all the heaviness of the show itself.
