Heyyy, guys. I’d love your input on what and when our next challenge should be.

I’ve been wanting to put on another fic challenge, (like our first challenge in this comm) but I don’t know what the interest level would be, since I know a lot of you are working on various Big Bangs (which, YAY!) I was thinking of maybe reducing the minimum word-count for this one from 2,500 to 1,000 for that reason, and also so those people who are more comfortable writing slightly shorter fic have a chance. Yes/no?

Then after that, I may keep the min. word-count at 1,000 and do more fic challenges a year, or maybe do one short one and one longer one per year, or... idk. Obviously I can’t please everyone/pick the right dates for everyone, but I'd like to get a sense of what you'd like. And for you guys writing Big Bangs, when would the best time be for you to participate in a challenge here?

Feel free to throw ideas for different types of challenges at me too. I’m really open to anything. ;)

OH, and for those of you who remember the first fic challenge, there will be a few minor changes to hopefully make things even better:

  • There’s the addition of our .amnesty tag, which wasn’t added until the end of the first challenge’s posting period. If your challenge fic is going to be late/you can’t finish it, you can either let me know and depending on how much time is left in the challenge, I’ll open the prompt back up to others or give you an extension and add it to the masterlist after the fact. Or, you can just use the amnesty tag whenever. In that case, your fic WON’T be added to the masterlist, but we’d looove to see it at any time! This is a low stress challenge to begin with and this should make it even more so.

  • It’s called a fic challenge, but I’m thinking of adding a section for art prompts/claiming as well, because art in this fandom is pretty and I love it.

  • I think I’ll probably take the lonely prompts from our last fic challenge out of the lonely prompts challenge. Then you guys can just re-prompt any untouched (unclaimed or claimed but unwritten) prompts from the last fic challenge this time around if you’d like, and that’s how we’ll deal with all future lonely fic challenge prompts as well. Uh, obviously anyone who’s filled one of these lonely prompts in the lonely prompts challenge, WE LOVE YOU, and this will have no effect on you.

Anyway. Tell me stuff!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] neonchica has made a suggestion in the comments for a challenge I think is super nifty, and I’ll be doing something similar in the future. Check out the suggestion here, and if you have any ideas for what that kind of challenge should be called, throw them out there! I'm horrible at titling things.

Hrm. Best time for me, I think, would be late July--maybe a Christmas in July challenge, or Pops Goes the Fourth or Dog Days of Summer or something? But whatever the majority decides is cool, since I have no clue as yet what my summer's going to look like beyond needing to have at least rough drafts of all of my Big Bangs done by July 15. I'll participate if RL will let me.
And if y'all don't want to wait that long, I'll just enjoy reading! :)

I'd be up for any type of challenge here. And, if its meant to be only 2 to 1k words, then dates don't matter to me even though I'm writing for the Big Bang challenge too. :)

Funny you should ask - I was just thinking of dropping a suggestion in to you! So, what if - instead of requesty prompts people posted "intros" or tidbits of a story that they want finished. I'm thinking anything from the starting line of a story, to a key paragraph within, or an excerpt that someone has written and doesn't have time/inspiration to finish. The only stipulation is that whatever the prompter offers has to be incorporated into the writer's finished story.
I don't know if this is appropriate for the fic challenge you're suggesting or if it would be better suited for a different time, but if you like the idea I'd be thrilled if you took it and ran with it!
As far as writing - IF I write, it's always long-winded so I'm not too concerned about 1,000 vs. 2,500 wds. I'm sure I'd fill the 2,500 regardless.

So excited to hear that! I'm glad you like the idea and can't wait to see it come to fruition : ) Looking forward to the challenge, too.

You know I'd be all over this idea like white on rice, right? You know I'd like flip out and do cheers and awkward dances and crap, right? This is a brilliant idea (go [livejournal.com profile] neonchica!) and might as well come with Dean holding out his hand to me and saying "c'mon wench, let's play 'cause I know you wanna."

So, yes, I support this!

Hmmmmm - good question. In my personal stash, I have anything from a couple lines to several pages that I would love to see something added on to. Maybe...we limit the prompt to one or two paragraphs at most, but allow prompters to make a note if they have more to the prompt. If writers want to collaborate with prompters they can have the option of grabbing the entire "pre-made" prompt or just going with what's provided on screen. Just a thought...
That way, too, if someone doesn't want to throw an entire piece out there (for fear it might not get snatched), they can still return to it at a later date without everything having been revealed.

That would be an amazing way of combining creativity, and cleaning out plot bunnies at the same time. I like the way you think!!

I'm loaded with long!fics and RL papers at the moment but this challenge needs to be taking place like yesterday :) I've had plot bunnies popping in my head all day and was wondering when the next h/c challenge would be and if it's only 1k minimum I could even sign up :)

I'm game for anything! And I like the 1-2k idea. I can work with that!

I love reading the fic challenges but I'm always looking for ones that will work for art so art prompts would be cool.

I think a new challenge would be fantastic. And summer's a great time. Sure, some people (myself probably included) will have summergen on the brain and maybe a BB or two (again, that's a maybe on my part as the notion of a Gen BB caught my eye), but it's a good time in regards to hiatus or forever hiatus if there's no season 7. Especially if there's no seventh season, I think summer is a good time as people will start to fall away after the show ends and time goes by. That said, I hope there's a seventh season!

I'm good with any idea you want to throw out there - longer, shorter, use of old prompts is a killer idea, anything. Just bring on the manpain. :D
