Sticks and Stones
Jan. 31st, 2011 08:42 pmSTICKS AND STONES
Rating: K+
Genre: Angst
Word Count: approx 100
Dean contemplates his life in the context of the child's nursery rhyme.
Disclaimer: don't own them.
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me …"
Words like 'weak', 'burden', 'pathetic', 'coward', 'worthless' … words that hurt;
Words spoken in heat by people he loved;
Words that were deliberately chosen to shatter his fragile soul into tiny fragments;
Words that haunted his dreams;
Words that bludgeoned his spirit into docile submission;
Words that broke his heart.
And the worst word of them all, the one Sam used when he left for Stanford; "Goodbye"
Yes, words might not make you bleed, but Dean would gladly take the sticks and stones any day.
