Author's notes: Because I don't want all the Apocalypse baggage or to have it looming in the future, this story is an AU set in a present day 'verse where John had the Colt in his hand during the few seconds he got control back and season 1 ended differently. All things flow from there. Most importantly, Sam didn't die and Dean didn't sell his soul to save him at the end of season 2. Thus no trip to Hell, no angels or Apocalypse here.

This story was inspired by the photo I've used here as my icon. I think of it as part of "the white shirt photo shoot" which I believe Jensen did during his Smallville days.
